Hands and Heads

Another day another picture. I don't have much to say about this one. Here it is a hand holding a body holding a head.

Female Figure

I didn't have a clear vision of what I wanted to do with this. I did want to play with proportions and I knew I wanted to emphasize the curves in the hips. The rest I just made up as I went along.

Stuck Between a Roc...never mind.

I have this idea for an animation I want to try of a guy or rock man thing. Basically it's a walk cycle where he takes these slow lumbering steps and in doing so breaks free from his rock formed feet that are attached to the ground. He reforms these feet with each step. I don't know what this would look like exactly but in my head it looks cool.

Chubby Face

This is a quick one I just finished at work. Why am I still at work on Friday night? I have no idea. OK it's time to get out of here.

She Found A Coin

This sketch was a surprise almost the entire way through. She was originally going to be a woman with her legs crossed pouring tea. Then her pose changed, her age changed, her race changed. The whole thing changed into this girl looking up at a coin. Even though this strayed so far from the original concept I think it turned out really well. I'm really pleased with it.

Laundry On The Floor

Ok I went back and took another stab at the cloth thing and this time I used reference. It's my towel hanging out of my laundry basket to be exact. Of course the big thing that would sell these folds and wrinkles would be some light and shadows. I'll get to that later.

Robe Boy

As promised I tried to do something focusing on cloth with tonight's sketch. This was done without reference and I think it shows. The head wrap thing turned out to be a mess. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do with it and I think it ended up looking like a bunch of rags pasted on his head. I do like how the sleeve turned out but I think I may have over done some of the folds. I was pretty confident that I could get natural looking folds and wrinkles through pure intuition. It's a bit of overconfidence on my part reference would have definitely helped here.

Running Man

I think the animator in me came out in tonight's sketch. This was fun. I particularly liked working on scribbling in all the tiny little creases and how they lay across the body. I think maybe tomorrow I might try to do something with allot of emphasis on cloth/clothing with lots of folds. That stuff is always a challenge to work on but also pretty rewarding.

Fist of Fire and Perspective Man

Man it's a late night post today right before midnight it still counts! I was actually just going to post the fist but when I realized I already posted a hand a few days ago I decided to make something else. I'm pretty pleased with how the guy turned out.

Robot Nation Invasion

Now that's way more like something from teenage Travis' notebook. Watch out old people they're coming for your medicine.

Torso Tree Boy

I like today's sketch it looks like something you would find in an artsy high school kid's algebra notebook. He's young, angry, and fed up with this small town plus mom and dad just don't understand him. What else can he do but let out all of his emotions creating the masterpiece that is "Torso Tree Boy".
What's funny is you probably wouldn't find something like this in any of my old high school notebooks.
I was waaay into graffiti at the time.

My First Post and I'm Already Behind

I took some advice from a friend and decided to follow her lead and start a daily sketch blog. So here's my first post! OK time to fess up i was supposed to start this like 2 days ago but got sidetracked. I did however do 2 days worth of sketching so here they are.
The one thing that surprised me is the drawing of the female head. It started out very feminine and along the way I think I slowly started adding masculine features. What the!? Did I give her an Adam's Apple?
I think I'll try another female face maybe a bit more feminine next time.
